Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Knights Secure Win With Late Goal

Teaneck N.J.- The FDU Women's soccer team (5-7-1)(4-0-1) played Sacred Heart (7-4-3)(3-1-2) today, October 9th at 12PM. FDU kept their second clean sheet of the season while scoring in the final minutes to secure the win.

How It Happened

1st Half

  • In the 17' the Knights created a great chance with slick one touch passing to create a counterattack that resulted in a great save being made on graduate student Lea Egner.
  • FDU created many chances in the first half with nine shots and four on target.
  • The Knights kept possession of the ball with confidence throughout the half and controlled the game for most of the half.
  • With 2' left in the half sophomore keeper Malene Nielsen made her only save of the half to keep the score level at zero.

2nd Half

  • The second half was evenly contested with both sides creating chances.
  • Nielsen made two decisive saves in the half and made great choices when coming off the line to keep Sacred Heart at bay.
  • The Knights kept pushing throughout the half for the breakthrough and stuck to the game plan which paid off late in the game.
  • In the 85' freshman Dominique Liberto played in a great cross which found the head of sophomore Aitana Martínez-Montoya who slotted the ball past the keeper. Martínez-Montoya has now scored in every single NEC match of the season.
Quotable

"We expected this to be a battle and that's exactly what it was, I was happy with the way we played the first half and contained the Sacred Heart attack throughout the match." Stated head coach Eric Teepe. "I felt it was our best game as a back line, SHU has a lot of great attacking players, but we were able to keep them outside of our box which really suppressed their attack. Before our next match we must recover and regroup as a team to get ready for LIU next week."

Next Up

The Knights will continue conference play next week against LIU and look to keep their great NEC record intact. The game will be played at home October 13th at 4PM. You can tune in live on NEC Front Row or watch the game in person at University Stadium.
