Scouting the Greyhounds
Loyola Maryland comes into this match 2-3-0 having won both of their matches at home, against Marist and Iona, and having lost their three matches on the road, to Clemson, Princeton, and Wake Forest. The Greyhounds finished 3-2-1 in the shortened 2020 season, losing to Navy in the Patriot League Semifinals for the second consecutive season. Loyola Maryland were picked to finish fifth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, and had a pair of juniors, forward Ada Clare Tempest and goalkeeper Paige Sim, named to the Preseason All-League Team. Thus far, the Greyhounds have scored seven goals this season, each one scored by a different player, and one own goal.
Scouting the Knights
The Knights are still flying high following the 1-0 double overtime victory over Seton Hall at University Stadium in a match that was postponed a day due to the inclement weather in the area. The turnaround is quick, and kickoff will be just over 50 hours after leaving the pitch following over 100 minutes of action for the second time this season. Freshman Aitana Martínez-Montoya earned her first career goal with the game-sealing effort in overtime and was assisted by Kiomy Luperon, whose assist was her first career collegiate point. Freshman netminder Malene Nielsen earned her second career clean sheet and made seven saves in the match, putting her at 27 on the season. She and Leighann Kafel, another freshman playing in defense, are the only two Knights to have seen every minute of action thus far this season. Prior to the victory over Seton Hall, FDU also toppled the Fordham Rams, 3-2, in New York.
What's Next
The Knights return home to finish off their non-conference schedule with a pair of matches in the upcoming week, starting by hosting Stony Brook on Thursday, September 9, at 5 p.m., at University Stadium in Teaneck, N.J.
