Scouting the Highlanders
NJIT come to the banks of the Hackensack on a three-game winning streak, including a 12-point victory at Big Ten foe Wisconsin. This will be the third consecutive game for the Highlanders against an NEC team, having beaten LIU at home in overtime before traveling to CCSU to secure a win on the road. They also opened the season against another NEC team, losing to Wagner by 11 points, and are still set to go toe-to-toe with St. Francis Brooklyn. With regards to individuals, NJIT are led by graduate student Ellyn Stoll, who sits just 25 points shy of 1,000 on her career, and Kenna Squier, who leads the team with 11.4 points per game.
Scouting the Knights
The Knights are coming off of a thumping of the Cornell Big Red on the road, toppling their Ivy League opposition by a score of 63-32. Devyn Scott led all scorers in the game with 14 points, while Rachael Niles also finished with double figures, scoring 11 points including three three-pointers. The Knights, as a collective, held Cornell to 19.6% shooting from the floor and 12.5% shooting from three. On the offensive end, the Knights made nine threes and shot 81.8% from the free throw line helping make this the most complete performance of the season thus far. Dahomée Forgues was held scoreless against Cornell, but the junior leads the team with 14 points per game. Chloe Wilson also has a scoring average in double figures (12.3 points per game) to go along with her six rebounds per game. This season, as a team, the Knights are close to cracking the top-20 in the nation in three-point field goal percentage, as they currently sit 22nd in the country with a collective 40.8% clip from behind the arc, led by Forgues (55.6%) and Celia Carbonell (54.5%).
Coach Szumilo's Thoughts
"We are looking to continue to get better with each practice and game. NJIT is playing with a lot of confidence having won three in a row, so we have to be focused right from the start, especially on the defensive end."
