HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team and Head Coach Angelika Szumilo announced on Friday afternoon that two student-athletes have signed their National Letters of Intent (NLI) in becoming Knights.
Alba Rovira joins the Knights from Valencia, Spain. The six-foot wing player currently plays for Advisoria Mataro' Maresme where she plays in the Spanish Second National Division as well as the U18 league among some of the top athletes in Spain. With her club, Rovira is averaging 13 points, ten rebounds, four steals, and three assists per game. Rovira has represented the nation of Spain at the international level, partaking in the U16 Juan Mena Tournament in December 2019, and has also represented her region of Valencia in the Spanish National U16 Championships as well, where, in January 2020, Valencia finished fourth among the regions in Spain.
On the addition of Rovira, Szumilo said, "Alba adds to our strong tradition of recruiting internationally. We have had great success recruiting in Spain, and adding Alba is no different. We anticipate Alba to be a stretch-four 4 in her early stages, but she will most likely transition into a wing player. Alba can shoot from deep, attack the basket, and she has a strong mid-range game. We are very excited about the addition of Alba!"
Eniya Scott is also welcomed into the fold, joining the Knights from Bayonne, New Jersey, adding another local player to the FDU Family. Scott is a 5'6" guard who played her club basketball for the North Jersey Shamrocks. Scott was named the top point guard in Hudson County as a freshman, averaging 17.3 points, 4.9 assists, and 4.8 rebounds as a freshman, and, over the course of her career, has joined the 1,000-point club, emphasizing her accomplishments at that level. Scott earned a Hudson County title as a sophomore and averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 assists, and 5.8 rebounds en route to a 25-4 record as a team.
On Scott's joining the Knights, Szumilo would say, "Eniya is a combo guard who plays the game like a coach. She has a high basketball IQ and loves getting others involved, but at the same time, she knows exactly when to be a threat herself, whether it be by attacking the basket or being a very solid outside shooter. We are very excited about adding a player of Eniya's caliber to our program."
"Both Alba and Eniya are not only very good basketball players but more importantly very impressive young ladies who possess high character traits and strong work ethic in the classroom," added Szumilo on her incoming freshmen class.
The Knights return to action for their home opener as they welcome Bucknell into the Rothman Center on Wednesday, November 17, at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed live on NEC Front Row.
