Scouting the Mountaineers
Mount St. Mary's have proven their quality in NEC season as well as in non-conference play. The Mountaineers have toppled strong conference opponents at home in Sacred Heart and Wagner, however the Moutaineers have seen a downtick in form, dropping each of their last five matches. The Mountaineers have the two assist leaders in the conference, with Elisabeth Rockhill and Kalli Bell both tallying seven assists thus far in the season. Rockhill leads the team in points with 15, while Bell follows with 13. The Mountaineers are led in goals by Hannah Cooksey, who has five to her name for a grand total of ten points on the year.
Scouting the Knights
The Knights are coming off a 0-0 draw at St. Francis Brooklyn in what was the seventh double-overtime match of the season for the women's soccer team. The shutout was Malene Nielsen's NEC-leading eighth of the year, and the Knights keeper is tied for the NEC lead in save percentage with an 82% in the metric. Her 1.04 goals against average is also good for second in the conference. Aitana Martínez-Montoya also continues to hold firm at the top of the NEC leaderboards, with seven goals, good for second in the conference, 15 points for fourth in the conference, and she sits third in shots with 51. As we get closer to the end of the season, the NEC Tournament picture is also starting to take shape. FDU currently sit level on points with Howard with 16, as well as a game in hand on both the Bison and the two other teams currently ahead of them in the NEC standings, CCSU and Bryant.
Coach Teepe's Thoughts
"Having already played a half vs. Mount St. Mary's, we now can get the game in. We know it won't be easy, as it was 0-0, despite the struggle of results Mount St. Mary's has had. They have some offensive players who can cause some havoc so we must be prepared to defend the counter, and also get back to putting some balls in the back of the net."
What's Next
The Knights return to action on Sunday, October 31, where Howard will come to the banks of the Hackensack. The match will take place at 12 p.m., and will be Senior Day, as the seniors of the program will be honored. The match will also be streamed live on NEC Front Row.
