SOMERSET, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's track and field coaching staff earned Indoor T&F Coaching Staff of the Year as announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
Head coach
Sharlene Milwood-Lee was named NEC Coach of the Year for the first time. In her 17
th season as head coach, she led the Knights to the first NEC Championship since 1999. Assistant coaches
Pete Charles,
Leroy Solomon, and
Dan Mecca were also members of the staff that earned the NEC staff honors.
Over the course of Milwood-Lee's career at FDU, she has coached 19 women's All-NEC Indoor Track and Field First Team Performers. She has Mentored six women's NEC Indoor Most Outstanding Performers.
After finishing second at last year's NEC Championship, the Knights racked up 109 points and earned a total of 11 medals in the 2020 Championship. FDU registered three gold, two silver, and six bronze medals.
Senior jumper and sprinter
Madeline Price collected the three gold medals in the long jump, triple jump, and 200 meter event. The senior improved her times as a runner and leaps as a jumper from her junior to senior year. Price also earned MVP of the 2020 NEC Championship and broke the school record in the triple jump with a mark of 6.13 meters.
Junior distance runner
Jazmyn Lewis brought home the silver medal in the 500 meter event and later broke the school record at the IC4A/ECAC Championships with a mark of 1:14.00. Lewis improved her time in the 500 meter event by .79 seconds from a season ago.
The Knights swept the medals in the long jump at the NEC Championships and senior
Kylia Smith and sophomore
Lisa Warfvinge each set PR's respectively. Freshman
Shantelle Riley earned two Rookie of the Week awards during the season as she competed in the 60 meter and 200 meter events.
For the season, the Burgundy and Blue had 14 members of the women's track and field team set PR's. FDU also had two athletes set school records over the course of the season. The Knights also sent five athletes to the IC4A/ECAC Championships to conclude the indoor season.
