Behind 32 points from senior guard
Darnell Edge the Knights topped Bryant 97-84 at the Rothman Center last February. In the win, Edge knocked down 7-of-8 from three-point land and 11-of-14 overall – both also career-bests – as the Knights shot 57.9 percent overall. The field-goal percentage matches a season-high for the Knights (13-13, 8-6 NEC), who have registered that clip three times this season. Joining Edge in double figures were
Jahlil Jenkins with 18 points,
Xzavier Malone-Key 15 points, and
Elyjah Williams, who tallied 12 points. Jenkins added seven assists and matched his career-high with five steals. In addition to the aforementioned performances, senior forward
Mike Holloway Jr. came one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds, while junior guard
Pat McNamara delivered his best performance of the season with nine points on 3-of-4 from long range. As a team, the Knights buried 13-of-23 (56.5 percent) of their 3-pointers. The 13 made trifectas matched a season best, while the percentage is their highest rate this season. For the Bulldogs, Adam Grant poured in 27 points and SaBastian Townes added 23 points with five rebounds.
Last Time Out
The Knights dropped their first league contest of the season, falling 79-63 at St. Francis Brooklyn on Thursday night. In the loss, junior guard
Jahlil Jenkins became the 29th Knight to eclipse 1,000 career points. Jenkins would finish with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Redshirt junior
Xzavier Malone-Key led all scorers with 19 points and added five rebounds, while classmate
Elyjah Williams recorded his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 boards.
The Terriers (7-6, 1-0 NEC) featured five players in double figures with Chauncey Hawkins spearheading the attack. Hawkins scored 16 points with five assists, four rebounds and three steals, while Deniz Celen contributed 14 points and Unique McLean netted a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double.
The Knights (2-10, 0-1 NEC) struggled from both distance and the free throw line, converting just 3-of-15 from three-point range and 10-of-20 at the line in the loss. The Terriers, who shot 45 percent overall, made nine 3-pointers and 16-of-20 at the charity stripe.
Coach Herenda's Thoughts
"This is always a very difficult place to come in and leave with a victory," said
Greg Herenda following the loss. "We came out and played well early but St. Francis answered our run. Give credit to St. Francis they made it difficult to run offense and obviously our turnovers really hurt us. We just have to figure out how to play for 40 minutes on the road and we will. Now we have a quick turnaround to play in Rhode Island for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday. Conference play is upon us."
What's Next
The Knights play their first home NEC tilt of the season and their third of the season as they welcome Sacred Heart to the Rothman Center on Thursday, January 9.
