LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team dropped their second match at the Bison Invitational, falling in straight sets to host Bucknell (25-20, 25-22, 25-17) on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman
Mujay Mambu paced the Knights (0-12) with 10 kills in the loss, while junior
McKenna Setterlund doled out 27 assists and sophomore middle
Brooke Stevens tallied five blocks.
The Bison, who were led by Sophie Bullard's 10-kill performance, outhit the Knights .214 to .089 in the contest and improved to 10-1 on the season.
After the Bison logged the first five points of the afternoon, the Knights fought back and made it a 6-5 game aided by a four miscues and a kill by Mambu. The Bison responded by scoring seven of the next nine points to establish a comfortable lead but the Knights would again fight back.
The Burgundy and Blue attack heated up and after a run which included three kills by Mambu and two from junior
Magdalena Maksimovic, the Knights were within one, 16-15 but the Bison had the answer again and rattled off five of the next six tallies to establish a lead they would not relinquish.
In the second frame, the Knights jumped on top 5-3. The start included a kill by
Victoria Demmene and a service ace from
Jessica Throckmorton. The set remained tight and eventually progressed to an 18-all tie. After a Bucknell point, back-to-back kills by Maksimovic put the Knights on top 20-19 however, the Bison countered with three straight points and never trailed again en route to the three-point win.
With the 2-0 match lead in hand, the Bison took advantage of 10 third-set attack errors by the Knights and totaled 12 kills of their own to finalize the win.
The Knights are back on the court at 3:00 p.m. today when they close out the Bison Invitational gainst Hampton.
