Three Bowlers Move On at USBC Singles Championships

DAYTON, Ohio – Three Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowlers began competition at the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships in Dayton, Ohio, on Tuesday, and all three have advanced to the round of 16 in bracket play.
 
Sophomores Amanda Chrzanowski and Aimee Sherman along with recent FDU graduate Karsyn Lukosius all moved past the qualifying round, with Sherman also winning her first round match in bracket play to advance to the round of 16.
 
The three Knights were part of a 24-woman field that had earned bids from their respective sectional tournaments. Each player bowled six games of qualifying on Tuesday morning to determine the bracket for match play. The top eight qualifiers received a first-round bye.
 
Chrzanowski and Lukosius each received byes by finishing in the top eight after qualifiers. Chrzanowski stood in second place in the standings after the six rounds, improving from her first game of 184 to then bowl games of 190, 193 and 191 before finishing her day with her strongest games of 256 and 244. Her total of 1,258 trailed only Averi Brown of Arkansas State, who led the field with a total score of 1,358
 
Lukosius scored at 200 or above (237 and 210) in each of her first three games and also completed her fifth game with a 215 score in totaling 1,231 pins, 25 more than the ninth-place finisher.
 
Sherman scored as high as 238 in the qualifying rounds, also bowling games of 221 and 200 to go with two games at 177 and one at 178 to finish with 1,191 pins and place 11th in the field.
 
Sherman then squared off against fellow NEC competitor Kayla Johnson of LIU Brooklyn in the first round of the bracket, defeating her NEC rival by 63 pins in a 615-552 match. She advanced to face Rachel Strogin of UAB in the round of 16.
 
Chrzanowski will face Samantha Laird from Hastings tomorrow in her first bracket match, and Lukosius battles Sarah Gill from Stephen F Austin in her opening match.
