Men's Tennis Goes to West Point Sunday to Face Army

TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team travels to West Point on Sunday to battle against Army in a match at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Knights (2-4) were swept by St. John's at the USTA National Center on Wednesday, with the no. 1 doubles duo of freshman Mehdi Dhouib and sophomore Andris Gudins pulling out the lone win for the Knights (6-4). Gudins and junior Ivan Solans Diaz battled their opponents in singles to three sets, but the Knights dropped all six singles matches and the remaining two doubles matches in conceding all seven points.

ROOKIE OF THE MONTH
Dhouib earned his second consecutive Northeast Conference Rookie of the Month honor on Thursday. The freshman has started his FDU dual match career with a 3-3 mark in both singles and doubles in the month of February, playing at the no. 1 spot in both match styles. The Larchmont, N.Y., native has singles wins over opponents from NJIT, Queens and Concordia (N.Y.) as well as doubles wins when teamed with Gudins against Hofstra, Concordia (N.Y.) and St. John's.

RECENT HISTORY
FDU and Army West Point have met seven times since 2007, with Army winning six of the seven matches. The lone FDU win was back in 2010 (4-3) in upstate New York, and the Black Knights have won each of the three matches. The two teams last played back in 2016, with Army winning a 4-2 match at home.

SCOUTING ARMY WEST POINT
The Black Knights (2-9) have dropped each of their last two matches to Bryant and Quinnipiac and have wins over NJIT and Michigan State thus far this season. The Black Knight roster is composed of five upper classmen and five freshmen, pulling from eight different states. The Black Knights are scheduled to play two matches on Saturday (home against Monmouth and St. Bonaventure) and another home match on Sunday against Fairfield before taking on the Knights. Last season, Army finished 17-12 overall and 6-1 in the Patriot League, reaching the Patriot League championship match before losing 4-2 to Navy.

UP NEXT
Following Sunday's match, the Knights travel down to Maryland to take on another service academy, the United States Naval Academy, on Friday at 2 p.m. The Knights will also hold their first Northeast Conference match of the spring season against St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday, with the match taking place on Navy's campus.
