SOMERSET, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis freshman
Mehdi Dhouib repeated as the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Month, as announced by the conference office Thursday afternoon.
The Larchmont, N.Y., native, started his FDU dual match career with a 3-3 mark in February playing at the no. 1 singles position. He also teamed with sophomore
Andris Gudins at the no. 1 doubles spot to go 3-3, including a recent win over a
St. John's duo at the USTA National Center (6-4). The pair also has doubles victories over Hofstra and no. 21 Concordia (N.Y.), a 7-5 triumph over the
seventh-ranked duo in Division II.
Dhouib has singles wins this season against NJIT's Tomi Antoljak (6-2, 1-6, 6-3) along with Division II opponents from Queens and no. 21 Concordia (N.Y.). His win over Queens opponent Cosme Jubera was the point that helped decide
FDU's 4-3 match victory over Queens. Both his Queens and Concordia opponents were all-conference honorees last year.
The freshman is 6-3 overall in doubles this season when paired with Gudins, and he also owns a 7-9 singles record that includes matches from the fall.
Dhouib was also named the
NEC's Rookie and Player of the Month in November, making it his second straight Rookie of the Month recognition.
The men's tennis team plays its next match Sunday afternoon against Army West Point at 2 p.m. in upstate New York.
