Warke and Smith Lead Women's Golf After First Round

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Competing in the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the Fairleigh Dickinson women's golf team completed the first round of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic on Sunday.  

This year, the 2019 edition of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic expanded from 43 teams to 49 teams.  

After the first day, the Burgundy and Blue are tied for 34th with a scorecard of 311 (+23), along with the Coyotes of South Dakota.  

With a score of 286 (-2), Coastal Carolina is atop the leaderboard heading into Monday.  

For FDU, Julia Warke and Nicola Smith led the charge, finishing day one at 4-over-par. Both sophomores sit tied for 91st. Sophomore Caterina Tatti shot a 79 (+7) for the Knights. The Florence, Italy native, ended Sunday tied for 139th.  

Rounding out the scorecard for FDU, Sophomore Najae Butler and first-year golfer Tomita Arejola are both tied for 163rd at 8-over-par.  

Tomorrow, the Knights will look to climb up the standings as only the Top 24 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round on Tuesday, while teams 25-49 will play for a flight championship at Oak Point.  

Monday's play will begin with a morning wave at 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, followed by the afternoon wave beginning at 1:30 p.m.  

Tomorrow's second round of play will have live (9-hole) scoring at www.golfstat.com.
