FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team fell to conference foe Sacred Heart 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-12) at the Pitt Center on Saturday afternoon.
In the loss, junior
Allison Koester registered 14 digs, while freshman
Mujay Mambu paced the Knights' offense with seven kills.
Three Pioneers recorded double-digit kills led by Gianna Scioletti's 13. Scioletti added three blocks and two aces to her ledger in the win.
The Knights led 7-5 in the first set after back-to-back kills by junior
Magdalena Maksimovic. With the frame tied at eight, the Pioneers went on a 6-1 run aided by a Scioletti kill. The Knights would close to within two, 19-17, before the Pioneers regained momentum and closed out the opening-set win.
In the second, the Pioneers broke a 7-7 tie with an 8-0 burst, which proved to be the difference in the set.
The Burgundy and Blue registered their highest attack percentage of the match in the final set (.172) however, so did the Pioneers as they put away 20 kills on just three errors and finished with a .486 percentage. The set featured five ties before the home team broke open a 7-7 game and closed the frame on an 18-5 run.
The Knights return home for their final two matches of the season and will host Robert Morris on Friday, November 15 before this year's senior day game, which is scheduled for Saturday, November 16 against Saint Francis U.
