Maksimovic Registers 14 Kills in Three-Set Loss to Robert Morris

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team was unable to knock off conference unbeaten Robert Morris at the Rothman Center, falling in straight sets (25-23, 25-14, 25-15).

Junior outside hitter Magdalena Maksimovic recorded 14 kills in the loss – her seventh double-digit kill performance of the season. Sophomore setter Corina Beimers contributed 17 assists, while junior setter McKenna Setterlund amassed a 12-dig, 10-assist double-double.

The Colonials (25-3, 15-0 NEC) were led by Emma Granger's 16 kills as they posted a .300 attack percentage and held the Knights to .120.

The Burgundy and Blue started fast and raced out to a 6-1 lead, which forced a timeout by the Colonials. Junior Victoria Demmene served up a pair of aces over the course of the run. With the Knights leading 7-2, the Colonials found their rhythm and scored 11 of the next 15 points to jump in front.

The Knights remained undeterred and would erase a pair of four-point deficits to eventually take a 21-20 lead aided by a pair of kills from Sophia Spiridonakos. Despite the Knights' momentum, the Colonials had the answer. A kill from Granger sparked a 4-0 run by the Colonials, who would hold off the Knights for the first-set win.

In the second set, the Colonials maintained control, jumping out to a 10-3 lead en route to the 11-point win.

The third set featured more of the same from the NEC's top team as they leapt out to another 10-3 lead before stretching their cushion to 18-4. Kills by Demmene and freshman Mujay Mambu helped the Knights on a 7-2 run in the middle of the set but the Colonials regained their footing and sealed the three-set victory.

The Knights close out the 2019 campaign with senior day tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. against Saint Francis U. The team will honor seniors Emma Liller and Abigail Strebig prior to first serve.
