Volleyball Sweeps at Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Led by sophomore Sophia Spiridonakos' seven kills and five blocks, the Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team swept Merrimack 25-10, 25-12, 25-21 at Hammel Court on Friday night.

The Knights, who defeated Merrimack in four sets earlier this season, pick up their second NEC win of the season by recording 10 blocks.

In addition to Spiridonakos' five blocks, sophomore Brooke Stevens and junior McKenna Setterlund each tallied three in the victory. Setterlund added 24 assists to her ledger.

After falling behind 5-3 early in the first set, the Burgundy and Blue rattled off 11 straight points to take control. Junior Allison Koester served up the run as the Knights went on to win by 15. Koester totaled a career-high 23 digs in the win.

The Knights put together another 11-0 run in the second set, which provided enough breathing room for them to ultimately finalize a 13-point win. Freshman Harper Cook was behind the serving line for the set-changing run.

With the Knights leading 19-18 in the third, a Stevens kill set the wheels in motion for the team to close out the win. Junior Victoria Demmene and freshman Mujay Mambu finalized the victory with one kill apiece.

The Knights are back in action tomorrow when they visit Sacred Heart. First serve is set for 5:00 p.m.
