Maksimovic Records 14 Kills in Four-Set Loss at Saint Francis U

LORETTO, Pa. – The Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team fell in four sets to Saint Francis U (25-11, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21) on Saturday night at DeGol Arena.

Junior Magdalena Maksimovic hammered a season-high 14 kills in the loss, while sophomore Corina Beimers racked up a double-double with 15 assists and 13 digs.

Madi Tyus amassed 24 kills and Keara McGraw added 16 kills for the Red Flash (2-16, 1-5 NEC) in the victory.

The Knights fell behind 5-1 in the opening set before closing the gap with a 9-3 spurt highlighted by three kills from Maksimovic. Trailing 10-8, the Burgundy and Blue saw the Red Flash respond with nine straight points as they rolled to the 25-11 win.

In the second set, Maksimovic powered the Knights to an 8-3 lead, which eventually grew to 13-6 after a putaway by Victoria Demmene. The Red Flash mounted a comeback and eventually tied the frame at 14-all. The Knights managed to quell the home team's momentum and ultimately came out on top with Demmene recording one of the final two points in the 25-23 win.

A neck-and-neck third set saw each team capture a four-point lead before the teams met at an 20-20 tie. A pair of attack errors would put the Knights in front by two however, the Red Flash took the upper hand by scoring five of the final six points to take a 3-1 match lead.

The Knights led 7-4 in the fourth thanks to a kill by freshman Mujay Mambu and a service ace by junior Allison Koester. Again, the Red Flash would fight back and after a kill by Demmene the two teams were tied at 19. A kill by Tyus sparked the final stretch for the home team who netted six of the final eight points to close out the win.

The Knights return home for their next two matches including their annual Dig Pink Match on Friday, October 18 against Sacred Heart.
