Women's Soccer Set For Rider Monday Night

TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team continues its stretch of away games to start the 2018 season with a contest against Rider Monday night in Lawrenceville at 7 p.m.

ENTERING THE KNIGHT
The Knights (1-2) have lost two straight matches by 1-0 scores after opening the season with a 1-0 victory over Marshall on August 16. In their most recent contest at Lehigh, the Knights held the Mountain Hawks to three shots in a scoreless first half before the Mountain Hawks scored the winning goal in the 77th minute. Junior goalkeeper Amanda Fitzgerald made five saves in the match, increasing her career total to 230, which is the third most among active juniors in NCAA Division I women's soccer.

SCOUTING RIDER
The Broncs (1-0-1) last played August 21 at fellow Northeast Conference foe Wagner and came away with a 2-1 overtime victory. Senior Kourtney Cunningham scored the golden goal for Rider in the 95th minute, her second goal of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Carmen Carbonell made eight saves in the match, giving her 20 in two matches to start the season. Rider opened the 2018 campaign with a 1-1 draw at Drexel. Last season, Rider finished 5-10-3 and lost in the MAAC quarterfinals. The Broncs were picked to finish fifth in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

SERIES SCORE
Fairleigh Dickinson and Rider stand at 5-5-1 in the all-time series against each other, but the Knights have won four of the last five meetings between the two New Jersey squads. The Knights earned a 2-0 victory in last year's showdown at University Stadium, with senior Elma Kolenovic scoring two first-half goals. FDU has scored at least two goals in each of their previous wins over Rider, and the two teams have played to overtime in two of the last four meetings. Monday's contest will mark the 11th straight year the two New Jersey schools compete against one another in women's soccer.
