SOMERSET, N.J. – The Northeast Conference announced its weekly awards for women's soccer Tuesday afternoon, and Fairleigh Dickinson freshman
Noam Kedem was named NEC Rookie of the Week.
Kedem, a defender from Modiin, Israel, scored the first two goals of her collegiate career in a pair of NEC matches against Central Connecticut and Robert Morris over the weekend.
On Friday, she buried a cross into the near side of the net to draw the Knights to within one score of first-place CCSU in the 87th minute. Kedem scored her second tally in a 3-1 victory over RMU, firing a one-touch line drive off a pass in the box into the upper-90, marking her second straight game with a goal.
The freshman also played a key role on the Knights back line and logged all 180 minutes of action over the two contests. She consistently defended against the NEC's leading goal scorer this season, RMU's Jane Schleicher, and helped limit the Colonials forward to only one shot on goal.
Kedem has started each of the past three contests for the Knights on defense, and has started six of her seven previous matches this season while appearing in nine overall.
She becomes the second Knight freshman to earn NEC Rookie of the Week honors this season, with fellow freshman
Christa Waterman receiving the honor after
the first week of action.
The Knights (3-7-3, 1-1-1 NEC) return to the field Sunday when they travel to Bryant for a 1 p.m. match in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
