SOMERSET, N.J. – One week into the season, Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer freshman
Christa Waterman earned the Northeast Conference's first Rookie of the Week award for the 2018 season.
Waterman netted her first career goal as a Knight on Thursday in the season-opening victory over Marshall. The defender headed into the net a corner kick feed from fellow freshman
Lea Egner in the 76th minute of a scoreless match, providing the difference maker in the Knights' first win of the season.
Waterman started on the backline in both of the Knights' contests so far this season, playing all 180 minutes against Marshall and Providence, and was part of a defense that has allowed just one goal in that span.
The freshman becomes the eighth different player to earn NEC Rookie of the Week honors under head coach
Eric Teepe's tenure.
The Knights (1-1) return to action Thursday afternoon when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to take on Lehigh at noon.
