Calhoun Presented with the Al LoBalbo Award

PARK RIDGE, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson University hosted its annual Division I Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday evening at the Park Ridge Marriott Hotel. Men's basketball head coach Greg Herenda honored hall of fame coach Jim Calhoun as this year's recipient of the Al LoBalbo Award.

The LoBalbo Award is presented to a person who, like Coach Lo, has through selfless service, tireless dedication and education through sport made significant contributions that transcend competition for the betterment of athletics and all who are involved.

On presenting Calhoun with the award Herenda said, "It was a tremendous honor to present Jim Calhoun with the Al LoBalbo Award. Coach Calhoun was part of the FDU family tonight and interacted with everyone in the room. It truly was a special night."

Calhoun was a collegiate head coach for 40 years starting at Northeastern University and then finishing his career with 26 years at UConn.  Calhoun turned the Huskies into a national power and won 625 games and three NCAA National Championships along the way.

UConn also won a NIT National Championship and 17 Big East regular season and tournament titles.  The legendary coach was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005.

In his coaching career against the Knights, Calhoun was 8-2 all-time including a 2-0 mark at UConn, with the last meeting occurring in 2010.
