Knights Complete Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's fencing team participated in the 2016 Vassar Invitational on Sunday. The invitational featured 16 teams on the women's side and 10 teams on the men's side.
 
Round One
 
The Knights lost to Cornell, 18-9, in the first round of the Invitational.
 
Graduate student Nadine Abdelaziz picked up wins in Foil with victories over Rachael Sterlicht, Ruchika Vashisht Goel and Luby Kiriakidi. Cornell took the Foil portion 6-3.
 
The Knights lost the Epee portion 6-3. Natalia Toby picked up a pair of victories for the Knights over Juliana Bain and Rebekah Jones. Emily Gifford also beat Bain to pick up a point for Fairleigh Dickinson.
 
Cornell came out on top 6-3 in Sabre. Isabella Garcia defeated Regina Chen to pick up a point for the Knights. Hana Ramdedovic defeated Megan Buteau and Jillian Habersaat beat Abigail Forth to round out the points for the Knights.
 
Round Two
 
In round two, Fairleigh Dickinson fell to Northwestern 21-6.
 
The Knights picked up no wins in Sabre, falling 9-0. In Foil, the Knights fell 8-1. Abdelaziz earned the lone win in Foil, with a victory over Lucia Procopio.
 
The Knights earned the win in Epee by a score of 5-4. Toby earned two wins against the Wildcats, defeating Adelle Berdichevsky and Aahana Chatterjee. Gifford picked up three wins, beating Chatterjee, Shirley Luong and Berdichevsky.
 
Round Three
 
Fairleigh Dickinson took home a win in round three, defeating Yeshiva 21-6.
 
In Sabre, the Knights earned an 8-1 win. Habersaat and Garcia each beat Sarah Graff, Gal Gir and Elana Muller. Ramdedovic earned wins against Graff and Gal.
 
The Knights won Foil, 5-4. Abdelaziz picked up three wins, with victories over Shoshana Ciment, Channah Bickford and Nill Greenberg. Carly Edelman earned the other two wins of the portion, beating Bickford and Greenberg.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson earned an 8-1 victory in Epee. Toby and Gifford each picked up three wins. Toby defeated Rebecca Kerzner, Noam Dery and Jamie Baum. Gifford beat Kerzner, Dery and Nitzan Shokroun while  Jennifer Vernon beat Kerzner and Baum to round things out for the Knights.

Round Four

The Knights defeated CCNY 18-9 in round four.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson earned an 8-1 win in Sabre. Garcia and Habersaat both defeated Samah Islam and Esmerlin Valerio and also earned a point in a forfeit. Ramdedovic defeated Islam and picked up a point in a forfeit.
 
The Knights lost Foil, 6-3, to the Bears. Abdelaziz picked up all three wins for Fairleigh Dickinson, defeating Nemesys Perez, Hannah Contreras and Ann-Renee Rubia.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson won Epee, 7-2. Gifford and Vernon each picked up three wins, with victorys over Fama Ndiaye, Judine Watkis and Yacine Ndiaye. Toby rounded things out for the Knights, picking up wins over Yacine Ndiaye and Fama Ndiaye.
 
Round Five
 
The Knights fell to Sacred Heart, 18-9, in round five of the invitational.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson defeated the Pioneers, 7-2, in Epee. Gifford and Vernon each picked up two wins for the Knights, both beating Carly Glowacky and Samantha Abott. The final three points for the Knights came from forfeits.
 
The Knights lost 7-2 in Foil. Abdelaziz earned both points for Fairleigh Dickinson, with wins over Julia Cupolo and Gabrielle Petrie.
 
The Knights did not pick up any points in Sabre, falling 9-0 to the Pioneers.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson did not pick up a win in Sabre, falling 9-0.
 
Round Six
 
In round six, Fairleigh Dickinson defeated Tufts, 16-11.
 
In Sabre, the Knights edged the Jumbos 5-4. Habersaat and Garcia each picked up two points for the Knights, defeated Lucy Pavlovitch and Maria Urbino. Ramdedovic defeated Pavlovitch to earn the last Knights' point.
 
The Knights swept the Jumbos, 9-0, in Epee with Toby, Gifford and Vernon each defeating Anna Gooch, Annie Ayala and Grace Tellado.
 
In Foil, Fairleigh Dickinson fell, 7-2. Abdelaziz earned two wins over Zoe Howard and Julia O'Gara.
 
Round Seven
 
Fairleigh Dickinson won a close battle with the host team Vassar in round seven, earning a 14-13 victory.
 
In Sabre, the Knights took home a 6-3 victory. Garcia swept the round, defeating Ariana Hawk, Kati Kim and Lilia Hutchinson. Habersaat defeated Sasha Czarnik and Hutchinson to earn two points for the Knight. Ramdedovic picked up the final point with a win over Ashley Kim.
 
The Knights also won Epee, 6-3. Toby took home three victories, beating Olivia Weiss, Victoria Lau and Rose Halsey-Vincent. Gifford beat Lau and Halsey-Vincent while Vernon defeated Halsey-Vincent.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson lost Foil 7-2. Both Abdelaziz and Edelman defeated Sophie Blumenstock to earn points for the Knights.
 
The Knights did not participate in round eight. Fairleigh Dickinson is back in action on Saturday at the Penn State Garrett Open, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in University Park, Pa.
