Baseball Drops Series Finale to LIU

Box Score

TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team dropped the series finale to LIU Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex by a score of 5-1.  Junior Logan Frati (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport/South Manor) gave the Knights (17-19, 8-8 NEC) a solid performance into the ninth inning, but it was not enough as the Blackbirds (15-29, 8-12 NEC) limited FDU to a single run.

FDU's run came in the first inning as senior Riley Moonan (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero North) pulled a base hit through the right side to score junior Dylan Sprague (Brunswick, N.Y./Averill Park) from second base and give the Knights an early 1-0 lead.

The Knights would threaten again in the game, but not score.

LIU got the run back in the top of the second on a run scoring fielder's choice and then took a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly by Bobby Webb in the third.

Frati pitched allowed just those two runs over his first eight innings, but surrendered a two run home run with one out in the ninth.  He finished the day with four runs allowed on seven hits over 8.1 innings.  He struck out five and walked just two.

Frati also pitched two innings of relief on Saturday giving him 10.1 innings pitched on the weekend.  He falls to 3-5 on the season with the loss.

Senior Anthony Calise (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) pitched the final two outs of the ninth.

Offensively, the Knights collected eight hits and reached on three walks, but struggled with men on base, stranding 11 runners over the course of the game.

Junior Patrick McClure (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius ) went three-for-four in the game and Sprague posted two hits to go along with his run scored.

Vincent Tranchina (2-1) earned the victory for the Blackbirds.  He went 7.2 innings and allowed one run.  Dustin Carlson picked up the save for LIU.

FDU will return to action next weekend at Bryant.  The Knights and Bulldogs will play a four game series Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
