RESULTS
EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's golf team moved up two spots to finish in fifth place at the 2015 Brown BEAR Invitational hosted by Brown University at the Metacomet Country Club in East Providence, Rhode Island.
The Knights entered the second round of the two-day tournament in a tie for seventh place, but FDU improved its score by four strokes on Monday and climbed into fifth in the final standings at 622 strokes (313-309).
Freshman
Gabriela Santini (San Juan, Puerto Rico/San Jose) led the way by shooting a team-low 73 on Tuesday. The score was the lowest round for a Knight at the tournament and followed her 77 in the first round. She finished in a tie for ninth place with 150 total strokes.
Sophomore
Ariadna Castro (Barcelona, Spain/St. Peter's School) also played well on Monday and finished in a tie for 23rd. She posted a score of 75 on Monday to pair with her 79 on Sunday for a 36-hole total of 154.
Senior
Monica Pena (Bogota, Colombia/Colegio Internacional de Bogota) and junior
Karly Lux (Bakersfield, Calif./Ridgeview) both tied for 37th with 159 strokes. Lux shot a 79 on Monday after a first round 80. Pena shot a 77 on Sunday and followed with an 82 in the final round.
Sophomore
Rebecca Wright (Melbourne, Australia/Moama Anglican Grammer School) finished tied for 56th with 164 strokes. She carded rounds of 80 and 84 for the tournament.
Yale won the tournament with a score of 589. The Bulldogs shot a 295 in round one and a 294 in the second round. Princeton (595), Boston University (602), and Pennsylvania (614) rounded out the top-four in front of FDU.
The Knights finished ahead of NEC foes LIU Brooklyn (624), Central Connecticut (639) and Sacred Heart (644).
Boston University's Adela Cejnarova and Yale's Elisabeth Bernabe finished 36 holes tied for the lead at 144 strokes (+2). Cejnarova won the tournament by chipping in for par on the first playoff hole.
The Knights will play one more competition, on Wednesday (4/15) in a quad-match hosted by Monmouth, before the NEC Championships on April 24, 25 and 26.
