RESULTSBEALLSVILLE, Md. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's golf team finished the Hoya Women's Invitational in fourth place with 959 strokes. The tournament, hosted by Georgetown University, was played on the 6,125-yard, par-72 course at The Members Club at Four Streams.
The Knights posted 315 strokes (+27) as a team in the first round, 328 (+40) in the second and 316 (+28) in Tuesday's final round.
Sophomore
Ariadna Castro (Barcelona, Spain/St. Peter's School) was the top FDU golfer for the tournament with a final stroke total of 236. Castro was +20 over the three rounds and finished in a tie for ninth place. She posted rounds of 76, 83 and 77.
Senior
Monica Pena (Bogota, Colombia/Colegio Internacional de Bogota) rebounded from a difficult second round to card a 76 on Tuesday and finish in 11th place. Pena opened the tournament with a 74 and then posted an 87 in round two before finishing strong in round three. She totaled 237 strokes for the tournament.
Sophomore
Rebecca Wright (Melbourne, Australia/Moama Anglican Grammer School) finished in a tie for 25th place with 246 strokes. She posted rounds of 79, 82 and 85. Freshman
Gabriela Santini (San Juan, Puerto Rico/San Jose) tied for 29th with a 247. She shot an 89 in round one, but improved to 77 in round two and finished with an 81 in round three.
Junior
Karly Lux (Bakersfield, Calif./Ridgeview) finished tied for 41st with 254 strokes. She posted rounds of 86, 86 and 82 for the tournament.
Pena led the Knights' in rounds one and three with her 74 and 76, while Santini's 77 was the lowest FDU performance in the second round.
Georgetown won the team title with a 941 stroke performance. The Hoya's were just 77 strokes over par. Marshall finished second (949, +85) and Youngstown State (953, +89) captured third. Behind the Knights (959, +95), was LIU Brooklyn (970, +106) in fifth, Loyola (973, +109), Albany (985, +121), Quinnipiac (990, +126), Wagner (1,009, +145) and St. John's (1,010, +146) rounding out the top-10 of the 13-team field.
Georgetown's Jaquelyn Eleey, LIU's Cristina Felip and St. John's Anna Kim all finished with a score of 230 to over the 54-holes.
The Knights will return to action on April 12 and 13 at the Brown Bear Invitational in Providence, Rhode Island.
