Women's Basketball to Face Familiar Foe in Monmouth Sunday

HACKENSACK, N.J. - An in-state rival and a former conference foe in Monmouth comes to the Startis Arena inside the Rothman Center to face the Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team on Sunday night at 7 p.m. The Knights will look to rebound from Friday night's 78-67 loss to UMass Lowell. 

OPENING TIP
FDU looks to get back into the win column when former NEC foe Monmouth comes to town on Sunday. The Knights will try to make it two wins in the first three games of an eight-game homestand before taking a nine-day break for the Christmas holiday. 

SERIES SCORE
This will be the 74th meeting between the Knights and Hawks. Monmouth owns a 50-23 lead in the all-time series and have won three straight. FDU has not won since the 2011-12 season down in West long Branch. 

LAST TIME OUT
FDU let UMass Lowell erase a 16-point third quarter Knight lead to get the 78-67 win. UMass Lowell outscored FDU 49-24 in the second half, including an 8-0 run to start the fourth quarter. 

SCOUTING THE HAWKS
Three players for Monmouth average at least 10 points per game; Jamiyah Bethune (13.6), Sarah Olson (12.6) and Tyese Purvis (11.4). The Hawks let it fly from behind the arc, they have taken 254 three-pointers already, which is 80 more than their competition. Monmouth comes into the game with a 2-7 mark like Fairleigh Dickinson. The Hawks lost back-to-back games, at Princeton and at home to Eastern Michigan. 

AMONGST THE TREES
FDU led the NEC in blocks per game last season (3.83) and was second in total blocks with 115. Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) led the Knights with 70. FDU is second so far this season with 4.5 per game.

FDU has made 18 three-pointers (18-of-53) in its last three games after making only nine through its first five. The Knights are only shooting 27.3% on the season still.
