Box Score CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Nine first-half three-pointers by Iona proved to be too much for Fairleigh Dickinson as the Knights fall 77-54 to the Gaels in the third game of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Challenge.
Fairleigh Dickinson (0-4) has lost five straight games dating back to last season. It is the third time in four years the Knights have started 0-4.
Iona (1-4) hit six three-pointers in the opening quarter in route to a 31-8 lead after the first quarter. Aaliyah Robertson hit five of her six three-pointers in the first quarter.
Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) and
Jackie Jackson ( Gaithersburg, Md./ Gaithersburg) each scored four for the Knights in the opening quarter.
The Gaels and Knights played an even game for the remaining three quarters. Both sides scored 46 points over the remaining 30 minutes.
"We played them even over the final three quarters, but we have to find a way to get off to better starts", said
Peter Cinella afterwards. "I thought our freshmen played well and the right way."
Livermore led the Knights with 11 points--all in the first half. Freshmen,
Natalie Zamora (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X) added six off the bench,
Peniel M'Bikata (Abbotsford, British Columbia/W.J. Mouat Secondary) and
Icies Hammer (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) each had seven and
Madelynn Comly (Littlestown, Pa./Delone Catholic) had six assists and two steals on the afternoon.
The Knights have a week off before taking the court again in Uncasville, Connecticut against Grand Canyon to conclude the 2015 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Challenge at Mohegan Sun.
