Tice Leads W. Soccer over NJIT, 1-0

Box Score

NEWARK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team extended its current win streak to three matches with a 1-0 road victory over NJIT on Sunday. With the victory, the Knights improve to 7-3-0 on the season, while the Highlanders fall to 2-10-0 overall.

All it took was a Carly Tice (Highland Falls, N.Y./James I. O'Neill ) goal in the 25th minute - her fourth of the season - for the Knights to win their final nonconference contest before Northeast Conference play begins next weekend. It was FDU's fifth shutout of the campaign and second in the last three matches.

"I felt we were able to create a lot of chances early, but we struggled on our play inside and around the box," Head Coach Eric Teepe said. "As a result, we allowed NJIT to stay in the game when we should have put it away. Hopefully, it will be a good lesson going into conference play, as we need to always respect what our opponents are capable of."

The Knights controlled possession for much of the match and held an 18-4 shot advantage over the hosts, including 14-0 in the first half. However, only three of those came on target for the visitors.

Both teams' goalkeepers made two saves in the contest, while Tice recorded a game-high five shots.

FDU is on the road once more next weekend when it visits Mount St. Mary's to open NEC play on Friday, Oct. 3. Kickoff from Emmitsburg, Md. is scheduled for 7 p.m.
