W. Soccer Shut Out By Monmouth, 2-0

Box Score

TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team was defeated, 2-0, by reigning MAAC champions Monmouth on Friday night. With the victory, the Hawks improve to 4-2-0 overall, while FDU falls to 4-3-0 on the season.

"I felt that we were a little careless with the ball and against a team of high quality like Monmouth we were punished for it." Head Coach Eric Teepe said, "In spots we were solid and we did create some chances but overall Monmouth deserved the win."

For the first time this season, the Knights were held without a goal. Monmouth's Rachelle Ross scored two unassisted goals, one on either side of halftime, and the visitors outshot the hosts nine to eight, with five of nine coming on target.

Junior goalkeeper Felicia Burr (Bellingham, Mass./Blackstone-Millville ) tallied a game-high three saves to give her 18 on the season.

Despite the result, the Knights compiled eight shots from three different players – Rachel Hoekstra (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central ), Amanda Goulet (Quebec City, Quebec/Shattuck-St. Mary's ), and Esther Rochon (Saint Romuald, Quebec/College Francois-Xavier-Garneau), but were unable to find a breakthrough.

"We will now need to get a little healthy, as we took some knocks over the last week, and work to correct some of our mistakes. We will get better because of this game." Teepe said.

FDU remains at home for its next contest against Vermont on Friday, Sept. 19. Kickoff from University Stadium is slated for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on NEC Front Row.
