W. Fencing Goes 5-0 at NJIT Invite

NEWARK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's fencing team dominated the NJIT Invitational on Sunday, finishing with a perfect 5-0 record to improve to 12-15 on the season. Foil fencers Nadine Abdelaziz (Bayonne, N.J./) and Anna Braun (Neuss, Germany/) were the top individual performers for the Knights, both finishing the competition undefeated at 15-0.

Along with Jillian Habersaat (New Milford, N.J./)'s 12-3 record, the foil team was able to finish the day with an unblemished 5-0 record. Saber and epee both ended the competition with 3-2 squad marks, ensuring that FDU would finish with winning records in all three weapons.

Yeliz Inalman (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) was the top performer in a balanced epee performance, finishing 11-4, while squad teammates Tanya Rivera (Union City, N.J./Union City) and Janki Patel (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) posted 10-5 and 9-6 records, respectively.

In saber, Hanna Heldenmuth (Miami, Fla./Keystone National)'s nearly perfect 14-1 record was a squad best for the Knights, while Kathryn Heaney (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) finished 11-4, and Hana Ramdedovic (Teaneck, N.J./) added another three wins to the squad's total.

FDU returns to NJIT later this week in a one-on-one meet with the Highlanders, before preparing for the National Squad Championships, hosted by Penn.

FDU vs Queens College: W 24-3
In a balanced and decisive first round, FDU finished with wins in all three weapons and earned a 24-3 victory over Queens College. The foil squad led the way for the Knights with a 9-0 sweep behind 3-0 marks by Nadine Abdelaziz (Bayonne, N.J./), Anna Braun (Neuss, Germany/), and Jillian Habersaat (New Milford, N.J./). FDU's saber squad was close behind, finishing 8-1 behind undefeated performances by Hanna Heldenmuth (Miami, Fla./Keystone National) and Kathryn Heaney (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck), with Hana Ramdedovic (Teaneck, N.J./) adding another two victories. Tanya Rivera (Union City, N.J./Union City)'s 3-0 mark was the top performance in epee, while squad teammates Yeliz Inalman (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) and Janki Patel (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) both finished 2-1 as epee earned the 7-2 win.

FDU vs Army: W 21-6
FDU's epee and foil squads both swept the round against Army as the Knights earned a decisive 21-6 win in round two of competition. In epee competition, Yeliz Inalman (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee), Tanya Rivera (Union City, N.J./Union City), and Janki Patel (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) all posted a perfect 3-0 mark to finish 9-0 as a squad. Foil matched the performance behind 3-0 marks by Nadine Abdelaziz (Bayonne, N.J./), Anna Braun (Neuss, Germany/), and Jillian Habersaat (New Milford, N.J./). In saber, Hanna Heldenmuth (Miami, Fla./Keystone National) was FDU's top performer, finishing with two wins, while Kathryn Heaney (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) added another victory to the team total.

FDU vs NJIT: W 19-8
Foil and saber both captured squad wins as the Knights earned a 19-8 victory over host school, NJIT. Nadine Abdelaziz (Bayonne, N.J./), Anna Braun (Neuss, Germany/), and Jillian Habersaat (New Milford, N.J./) all finished 3-0 to sweep the Highlanders 9-0 in foil. In saber, Hanna Heldenmuth (Miami, Fla./Keystone National) and Kathryn Heaney (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) both went undefeated while Hana Ramdedovic (Teaneck, N.J./) added the final victory in the 7-2 saber win. Yeliz Inalman (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) was the top performer for the Knights in epee, finishing with a 2-1 record in the round.

FDU vs Rutgers: W 16-11
Despite close losses in epee and saber, FDU earned a 16-11 win over Rutgers behind a 9-0 sweep by the foil squad. Nadine Abdelaziz (Bayonne, N.J./), Anna Braun (Neuss, Germany/), and Jillian Habersaat (New Milford, N.J./) all finished 3-0 in foil to capture the foil squad victory. Hanna Heldenmuth (Miami, Fla./Keystone National) was the top performer in saber, also finishing 3-0 in the round. In epee, Yeliz Inalman (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee), Tanya Rivera (Union City, N.J./Union City), and Janki Patel (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) all contributed one victory to the team total.

FDU vs Lafayette: W 20-7
FDU finished the day with a three-weapon sweep of Lafayette and a 20-7 team victory. The epee squad led the Knights in the final round of competition with an 8-1 squad win behind perfect rounds by Yeliz Inalman (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) and Tanya Rivera (Union City, N.J./Union City) and a 2-1 mark by Janki Patel (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills). In saber, Hanna Heldenmuth (Miami, Fla./Keystone National) and Kathryn Heaney (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) were both 3-0 in the round, helping the saber squad to a 6-3 win over the Leopards. The foil squad matched the 6-3 victory behind undefeated performances by Nadine Abdelaziz (Bayonne, N.J./) and Anna Braun (Neuss, Germany/)
