STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team fell to Wagner, 67-48, in Northeast Conference action on Monday night at the Spiro Sports Center. With the victory, the Seahawks improve to 8-17 (7-7 NEC) on the season, while the Knights fall to 2-23 (1-13 NEC) overall.
With the score tied at 23-23 late in the first half, Wagner scored 12 of the final 16 points of the first half before extending its run to 17-4 to take a 40-27 lead at the 16:44 mark of the second half and never looking back.
Sophomore
Brianna Thomas (Baldwin, N.Y./St. John the Baptist Diocesan) collected a double-double after grabbing a career-high 18 rebounds to go along with 10 points and three steals. Fellow classmate
Anastasia Williams (Central Islip, N.Y./St. John the Baptist Diocesan) added a career-best 17 rebounds, as FDU held the advantage on the glass, 59-41.
Junior
Amanda Andrades (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) led the Knights in scoring with 18 points, while sophomore
Kelsey Cruz (Chester, Va./Lloyd C. Bird) added 15.
FDU struggled from the field, shooting only 22.7 percent (17-of-75), while the Seahawks finished at 42.2 percent (27-of-64). The home team held a 14-point advantage in points in the paint and recorded 15 blocks on defense.
Jasmine Nwajei of Wagner led all scorers with 29 points and almost constructed a triple-double with 10 rebounds and nine assists. However, Ugo Nwaigwe did record a triple-double with 12 points, 19 rebounds and 13 blocks.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 22 when they travel to Emmitsburg, Md. to face Mount St. Mary's in conference action. The Mount defeated the Knights on Feb. 10 at Stratis Arena, 88-70.
