W. Basketball Loses to Bryant 81-51

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team was defeated by Bryant, 81-51, in Northeast Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Stratis Arena. With the victory, the Bulldogs improve to 13-11 (8-5 NEC) on the season, while the Knights fall to 2-22 (1-12 NEC) overall.

Bryant scored on their first field goal attempt, a layup by senior Courtney Schissler, and the Bulldogs never looked back. The visitors would eventually head into the break with double the output of the hosts, 44-22.

Bryant outscored FDU 37-29 in the second half and shot 46.4% from the field for the game to go along with a 23-for-30 line from the charity stripe. The Bulldogs also outrebounded the Knights 42-31.

Junior Amanda Andrades (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) paced her team with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and a three-pointer. Senior Desiree Crawford (Aurora, Ontario/Cardinal Carter Catholic) was the only other Knight in double figures with 10 points to go with three rebounds. Freshman Zeynep Akgun (Ankara, Turkey/Ted Ankara) notched a career-high eight points on 3-of-7 shooting with two three-pointers.

Bryant senior Naana Ankoma-Mensa led the way with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field with a full stat line. Senior Courtney Schissler tallied 15 points, Meredith Soper notched 11 and eight rebounds, and sophomore Brianna Rucker finished the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

FDU will have a quick turnaround when it begins a three-game road stretch by travelling to Staten Island on Monday night to take on Wagner in Northeast Conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
