BRONX, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's and women's track and field teams will get their 2014-15 seasons underway with a pair of meets this weekend. The Knights will first travel to the Bronx for the Christmas Classic hosted by Fordham University on Friday, Dec. 5, then they will host the FDU Knights Classic on Sunday, Dec. 7, in the Rothman Center in Hackensack, N.J.
Both the men's and women's teams are made up of experienced veterans as well as some promising newcomers for the indoor season.
Returning to the team on the women's side is senior
Melika Lewis (Concord St. John's, Grenada/Angilcan) who finished the season last year with a ninth place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.99 seconds and an 11th place finish in the 200-meter dash crossing the finish line in 25.92 seconds.
The women's indoor track team will also be returning junior
Kristy Bono (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) who finished last season with a season-best time of 10:59.75 in the 3,000 meters.
In the home opener for the Knights all events will have the women going first followed by the men. Field events will start at 9:00a.m. and the running events will start at 10:30a.m. The FDU Knights Classic will host Iona, NJIT, St. Peters, Lehman as well as Northeast Conference rivals LIU Brooklyn and St. Francis Brooklyn.
Following this weekend, the Knights will host the second FDU Knights Classic on Saturday Jan. 10 in the Rothman Center in Hackensack, N.J. with the events starting at 9:00 a.m.
