Women's Bowling Starts in First at UMES Hawks Classic

Day 1 Results


MILLSBORO, Del. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling team sits in first place after the first day of competition at the 18-team UMES Hawks Classic. Friday's competition consisted of six rounds of quad baker matches.

The Knights went 4-2 with victories over Vanderbilt (1,105-957), Franklin Pierce (980-889), Monmouth (1,110-789) and UMES (1,020-89). But lost two heartbreakers to Sam Houston State 1,001-999 and NC A&T 909-896.

The Knights lead the pack in total pinfall with 6,110. Sam Houston State is in second with 5,937, followed by NC A&T with, 5,909, then Vanderbilt with, 5,764 and UMES rounds out the top five with 5,698.


" It's always nice to be sitting at the top of the leader board for the overall team standings, but we need to be a bit more competitive in close matches during tomorrow's games," said Head Coach Mike LoPresti. " We lost two tough matches today. Tomorrow we will need to be more resilient and more versatile to improve our win-loss record," continued LoPresti.

Saturday's play will feature four traditional matches for FDU. The Knights will open the second day against Delaware State University, who is currently ranked No. 19 in the country. Sunday will consist of the playoffs, with best-of-seven baker rounds
