W. Soccer Readies to Host Rider

TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team will look to get back on track when they host Rider on Sunday, Sept. 1.  Kickoff at University Stadium is slated for 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring their own seats to them game, and webcasts will be on hold until further notice with the renovation of the stands.

The Knights earned their first win of the 2013 campaign last Friday with a 1-0 victory over Iona, but fell to 1-1 on the year with a setback at Stony Brook. The team will aim to move to 2-1 when they host the Broncs.

Freshman Connie Lewis (Outer Cove, Newfoundland/Gonzaga ) leads the team with the only points of the season thus far. Lewis notched an unassisted goal in the 39th minute of the opener. Lewis and classmate Giselles Perez (Cartaret, N.J./Cartaret) pace the team with four shots each, while senior Elizabeth Langer (Clinton, N.J./Voorhees) has recorded two on the season.

The Broncs are also 1-1 on the season with two games played thus far. Rider fell to Bucknell, 3-0, it its opener and faced Northeast Conference foe Bryant on Friday. Backed by two goals from senior Jennifer Meier, the Broncs defeated the Bulldogs, 3-1. Rider has added 11 newcomers to a team that went 10-4-3 last season. The newcomers make up six starting positions.

Since 2000, the Knights are 1-4-1 in the series with Rider. Last season, FDU scored in the 85th minute to tie the game, 1-1, but saw Rider score the game-winning goal three minutes later to earn the 2-1 victory in Lawrenceville, N.J.

Following the in-state matchup, the Knights will travel to Syracuse, N.Y. to face ACC opponent Syracuse on Thursday, Sept. 5. Kickoff at SU Soccer Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.
