EVANSTON, Ill. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's fencing team made the most of the final day of the Northwestern Duals with a 4-2 record on Sunday, Feb. 3, to improve to 11-15 on the season.
ROUND 1 -- #1 Princeton (L, 24-3)
The Knights put up a strong fight against the power house Princeton Tigers. Sophomore
Hanna Heldenmuth (Miami, Fla./Keystone National) (2-1) and the sabre team recorded all of the victories of the match for FDU, as No. 1 Princeton came away with a 24-3 win.
ROUND 2 -- California Institute of Technology (W, 21-6)
FDU recorded the first win of the day led by the senior captains
Sophia Bischof (Bonn, Germany/Albert Einstein Gymnasium) (2-0) and
Christine Forsythe (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) (3-0). Other top performers included sophomore
Alix Lerch (Puebla, Puebla, Mexico/Instituto Oriente) (3-0) and senior
Alexis Camara (Tampa, FL/Freedom) (2-1)
ROUND 3 – Cleveland State (W, 23-4)
The Knights picked up the second win of the day against Midwest competitor Cleveland State. Top performers included Lerch (2-0) and Freshman
Janki Patel (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) (2-0)
ROUND 4 -- Lawrence (W, 21-6)
The Sabre and Epee squads led the Knights with 8-1 bout scores. Sabre fencers Bischof (3-0) and Heldenmuth (3-0) and Epeeist
Yeliz Inalman (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) (1-0) were the top performers.
ROUND 5 -- Stanford (L, 17-10)
The Knights put up a strong performance against the Stanford Cardinals. The sabre squad recorded the most bouts (4) led by Bischof (3-0). Other top performers included Lerch (2-1).
ROUND 6 -- Detroit-Mercy (22-5)
The Knights finished on a high note with 4-2 record on the day with a dominating victory over the Titans. Led by Camara (3-0), the foil squad recorded the strongest squad performance with an 8-1 bout score. Other top finishers were Inalman (2-1) and Heldenmuth (3-0).
