Gooding's Seventh-Place Finish Leads MXC at NEC Championships

LORETTO, Pa. -- Sophomore Darrel Gooding (Somerset, N.J./Franklin Township) paced the Fairleigh Dickinson men's cross country team with a top-seven finish Saturday at the Northeast Conference Championships. Gooding finished the 8K (4.97 miles) Immergrun Golf Course track in 27:03, eight seconds behind the winning time. As a result, Gooding was named to the 14-member All-NEC Team.

The race featured 72 runners, and Central Connecticut State won its fifth-straight NEC championship. The Knights finished in eighth place in the standings.

Junior Cody Shave (Amsterdam, N.Y./Fonda-Fultonville) was the next FDU runner to complete the course, and he crossed the finish line in 30:37. Freshman Kazeem Otun (Rahway, N.J./Rahway ) and senior Phillip Guth were the next to finish, recording times of 31:49 and 31:52, respectively.

Senior Frank Ortiz (Union City, N.J./Union City) registered a time of 32:08, while freshmen Joshua Utate (Union City, N.J./Union City) (33:50) and Dayron Brown (Millville, N.J./Millville) (36:44) rounded out the times for the Knights.

FDU will return to action Friday, Nov. 15 at the NCAA Regional Championships in Lehigh, Pa.
