W. Bowling to Host NJ Jamboree This Weekend to Begin the Season

Tournament Information / Rotation Schedule / Playoff Bracket / Program

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling team begins their season Nov. 1-3 when it hosts the 2013 New Jersey Jamboree Women's Bowling Invitational at the Parkway Lanes in Elmwood Park, N.J.

The Knights are ranked No. 7 in the 2013-14 National Ten Pin Coaches Association Preseason Poll, which displays the talent available to Coach Mike LoPresti even after the graduation of two-time Division I Player of the Year and three-time NEC Player of the Year Danielle McEwan (Stony Point, NY/Stony Point). The team features several standouts, including junior Liat Vizenfeld (Holon, Israel/Campus Kiryat Sharet) and reigning NEC Rookie of the Year Rebecca Fischer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Northgate High School). Vizenfeld recently competed at the World Tenpins Bowling Association World Championships for her native Israel. The junior finished 25th out of 212 bowlers, best of her team, and the second-highest ranked American.

The three-day invitational will include 18 other top-bowling programs from around the country, including several in the preseason top 20, and will be comprised of an 11-match qualifying round and two rounds of playoff matches. The first and second place teams, based on total pin fall after qualifying in each pool, will be awarded trophies and individual awards, as well as the first, second and third place teams in the final standings.

The 19 teams will be broken up into two pools:

FDU will be in the Blue Pool along with fellow preseason top 20 teams Arkansas State (4), Sam Houston State (6), Wisconsin-Whitewater (8), Sacred Heart (13), LIU Brooklyn (16), Prairie View A&M (19), Delaware State, Monmouth and Cheyney.

The Red Pool features eight schools in the preseason top 20: Vanderbilt (2), Maryland-Eastern Shore (5), Stephen F. Austin (9), Adelphi (11), Kutztown (12), Valparaiso (14), New Jersey City (18), Bethune Cookman (20) and Salem International.

The Jamboree begins Friday at noon, continues at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and the final day on Sunday starts at 9 a.m.

The Knights will return to action Nov. 9-10 at the first Northeast Conference Meet of the season in Reading, Pa.
