BRONX, N.Y. -- Sophomore standout
Darrel Gooding (Somerset, N.J./Franklin Township) paced the Fairleigh Dickinson men's cross country team at the Metropolitan Champions on Friday at Van Cortlandt Park.
Gooding completed against 116 runners and took sixth place, as he completed the course in 26:25, only six seconds slower than his time on the same course (a course personal record) at the Fordham Fiasco/Ed Joyce Memorial in the first meet of the season and 24 seconds behind the winner.
As a team, the Knights finished in ninth out of 11 teams on the 8K (4.96 miles) course.
Next to finish for FDU was junior
Cody Shave (Amsterdam, N.Y./Fonda-Fultonville), who clocked in at a season-best 30:28. Senior
Frank Ortiz (Union City, N.J./Union City) finished the course four seconds later, also establishing a new season best.
Freshman
Dayron Brown (Millville, N.J./Millville) completed the course in 31:15 to establish a collegiate personal record in only his fourth meet. Senior
Philip Guth (Rostoch, Germany/CJD Rostoch) (31:58) and freshman
Joshua Utate (Union City, N.J./Union City) (34:21) rounded out the times for the Knights.
FDU will return to action Oct. 25 when it hosts the FDU Knights Challenge at Van Cortlandt Park. The 8K race is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
