Army took a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Cody Murtle's two-out three-run homer down the left field line off FDU starter
Ryan MacDonald (Bethpage, N.Y./Island Trees), who was lifted after facing one batter in the top of the second inning.
In the top of the second, the Knights answered with a three-spot to tie the game at three. Senior co-captain
Mike Eliasen (Swedesboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on freshman
Riley Moonan (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero North)'s one-out single to left field. The next batter, freshman
Shane Siebler (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area), tied the game at three with his first career home run, a blast over the left field fence.
FDU took its first lead of the game in the top of the third as Moonan tripled home #freshman
Mike Hewson (Sayville, NY/Sayville)# with two outs.
The Black Knights tied the game at four in the bottom of the fourth on Zach Price's two-out RBI single to center field.
After neither team scored over the next two innings, the Knights took the lead for good with a run in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead. Senior co-captain
Ryan Kresky (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) started the inning with a opposite field single and took second on junior
Eric Anderson (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands)'s groundball back to the pitcher.
With one out, junior
Kyle Weeks (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood) picked up where he left off on Saturday and drove home Kresky with a single up the middle for the eventual game-winning run. FDU put runners on the corner with two outs but could not tack on any more runs.
The Knights tacked on a key insurance run in the top of the eight as freshman
Jordan Ritz (Newport News, Va./Woodside) scored on a wild pitch with two outs to extend the lead to 6-4.
Freshman
Eric Snyder (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) allowed a base runner on a error in the bottom of the ninth but was able to record the final three outs for his NEC-leading seventh save of the season and a 6-4 FDU victory.
Anderson relieved MacDonald after the first inning and went the next four, allowing one earned run on two hits, while striking out three, walking none and plunking two batters. Freshman
Anthony Calise (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) (2-1) picked up the victory by pitching 2.0 scoreless innings as he yielded only one hit. Freshman
Yonah Perline (Dix Hills, N.Y./St. Dominic) pitched a scoreless eighth before giving way to Snyder in the ninth. The bullpen allowed only one run over the final eight innings.
Army's Taylor Goucher was tagged with the loss after giving up the winning run in the seventh inning. The Black Knights threw five pitchers on the day with starter Erik Washburn leading the way with 4.0 innings on the bump. He allowed four earned runs on eight hits, while walking three and striking out one.
Kresky, who is hitting over .700 in his last five contests, led the Knights' 13-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with the game-winning run scored. Moonan and Siebler each went 2-for-3 with a run scored with Moonan driving home a run with his triple and Siebler three runs with his round-tripper.
The Knights' pitching limited the Black Knights to only five hits with Price and Murtle each collecting a pair.
FDU will return to action this weekend when they step out of NEC play to play a three-game series at Radford. First pitch for game one will take place under the lights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 13.
