Baseball Falls at Home to Stony Brook 17-5

Box Score

The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team dropped its third-straight game as they fell to Stony Brook, 17-5, Wednesday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex in Teaneck, NJ.  The game was called right before the start of the eighth inning because of darkness.  With the victory, the Seawolves improve to 5-3 on the season, while the Knights fall to 1-4 overall.

Leading 3-2 after three innings, Stony Brook exploded for seven runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take a commanding 17-2 lead.  FDU scored three in the fifth to make the final score 17-5.

Freshman starter Mitch Paz (Bridgeport, CT/St. Joseph) (0-1) took the loss on the hill for the Knights.  The lefty, who faced one batter in the fourth inning, pitched 3.0 innings, allowing four runs, all earned, on two hits.  He walked four and struck out one.

The FDU bullpen, which saw five pitchers throw, allowed 13 runs, nine earned, on 14 hits, while walking two and striking out one.

Two costly errors in the fourth inning allowed the Seawolves to score seven runs.

Six Knights collected a hit with junior Eric Anderson (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands) and freshman Pat McClure (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius ) each collecting two RBI's.  Freshman lead-off hitter Jordan Ritz (Newport News, Va./Woodside) scored two runs.

Pat Cantwell, Cole Peragine, Michael Roehrig and Michael Hubbard each collected two hits as Stony Brook pounded out 16 for the game.  Max Tissenbaum drove home four with a grand slam, while William Carmona drove home three with a three-run blast.

The Seawolves threw seven pitchers with Matt Gallup the only one pitching more than one inning.  He was credited with the victory as he pitched 2.0 innings on the hill.

“Stony Brook won 42 games and won the American East last season,” Head Coach Gary Puccio said.  “Obviously this was an upscale game for us.  I wish we could have performed a little better.  We are a young team, and we will benefit from playing a team of this caliber and are confident this will give us the experience we need to be more successful in the conference.”

The Knights will have a day off before returning to action on Friday at Lafayette before playing two games against the Leopards at home on Saturday.  First-pitch for Friday is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
