The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team will look to sweep the Hawks of Monmouth University in the final game of Northeast Conference Rivalry Week on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Tip off at Stratis Arena in Hackensack is slated for 7:00 pm.
The contest between the Knights and the Hawks will conclude the third annual NEC Rivalry Week which runs from Feb. 8 - Feb. 15. After the game, the school who scores the most combined points through the week will earn the Governor Codey Trophy.
Through three games of Rivalry Week, FDU trails by 19 points.
Led by a Fairleigh Dickinson program-record 42 points from senior #Mariyah Laury (Orange, NJ/Orange)#, FDU defeated Monmouth, 72-64, Saturday, Feb. 11 at the MAC in West Long Branch, NJ. The Knights improved to 12-13 on the season with a 7-6 record in Northeast Conference play with the win. The Hawks dropped to 13-11 on the season with an 8-5 mark in conference but maintained their third place ranking in the NEC.
Laury went 16-for-28 from the field and 10-for-12 from the free-throw line to help the Knights knock off the Garden-State foe. Laury is leading the Knights with 17.3 points per contest. Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) and Danielle Pankey (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) add 10.9 and 11.0 points per game, respectively.
The Hawks of Monmouth are tied for third place with an overall record of 13-11 and a conference mark of 8-5. After falling to Bryant and defeating CCSU the weekend before, the Hawks lost to Quinnipiac, 75-63 last weekend.
After a one-point first half against league-leader, Sacred Heart, the Hawks out-scored the Pioneers, 37-16 in the final 20 minutes to take the win, 70-50. Alysha Womack led the charge with 27 points. Womack was named NEC Player of the Week for her lights-out shooting against SHU.
Womack leads the Hawks with 14.6 points per game, but she is averaging 16.0 points per NEC contest. Abby Martin adds 11.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest.
Under first-year Head Coach, Jenny Palmateer, Monmouth averages 61.0 points per game as a team, while allowing their opponents 62.8 points. They have shot 37.8 percent from the field through 24 games, while picking up 38.5 rebounds, 13.5 assists and 18 turnovers per game.
The Knights travel to Maryland for their final road series of the season this weekend. They will face Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, Feb. 18.
