The Knights (3-5) are coming off a 55-50 victory at Saint Peter's on Saturday. Redshirt junior
Danielle Pankey (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) and sophomore
Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) each produced double-doubles to lead FDU. Pankey scored a game-high 16 points, with 14 coming after halftime, grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds and picked up three steals, while Livermore chipped in 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Sophomore
Mariah Nunes (Ajax, Ontario/Bill Crothers ) added a career-high 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field, a season-high six rebounds and tied a career-best in steals with four. Senior
Torrie Childs (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) came off the bench to score a season-high eight points and pulled down six rebounds, while junior
Desiree Crawford (Aurora, Ontario/Cardinal Carter Catholic) grabbed a season-high nine rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.
In a game that featured seven ties and 14 lead changes, FDU outrebounded SPU, 50-38, and forced 15 turnovers, with 10 coming off steals. The 50 rebounds tied a season-high.
The Knights only shot 32.3 percent (21-of-65) for the game and struggled from three-point range (1-of-13) and the free throw line (12-of-24). The Peahens managed to shoot 34.5 percent (19-of-55) from the field and only made 4-of-20 from behind the arc and 8-of-17 from the charity stripe.
FDU shot 39.3 percent (11-of-28) over the final 20 minutes, while limiting SPU to only 27.6 percent (8-of-29) during that stretch. The Knights outscored the Peahens, 30-10, in the paint and 18-5 on second-chance points.
Pankey leads FDU in scoring, averaging 14.4 points per game average. She is also averaging 5.6 rebounds per contest and leads the team in steals (16) and made three-pointers (9). Livermore is averaging 13.6 points and a team-high 11.0 rebounds per game, while shooting a team-best 51.9 percent (41-of-79) from the field. She is currently the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week and has recorded six double-doubles in eight games this season, which leads the league.
Stony Brook (5-3), who is picked to finish last in the nine-team America East Conference, has won four of its last five contests after starting out the season 1-2. The Seawolves played two home games (lost 62-50 to Navy, defeated Navy 44-40) to start the year before playing four straight on the road (lost in overtime to Morgan State 66-63, defeated NJIT 59-34, defeated NEC foe Robert Morris 56-48, lost to Youngstown State 73-46). Over its last two contests, Stony Brook has defeated NEC opponent Sacred Heart, 51-46, at home and took down Fordham on the road, 58-46, last Saturday.
The Seawolves have three players averaging double-figures in points. Sophomore forward Sabre Proctor leads the way with 10.4 points per game and is shooting 47.5 percent (29-of-61) from the field and a team-best 88.0 percent (22-of-25) from the free throw line. Senior forward Jessica Previlon is averaging 10.1 points per contest, a team-high 9.0 rebounds per game and is shooting a team-best 50 percent (35-of-70) from the field. Junior guard Chikilra Goodman, who was currently the America East Player of the Week after posting double-doubles against Sacred Heart (19 points, 16 rebounds) and Fordham (17 points, 12 rebounds), is averaging 10.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and a team-best 3.8 assists per game.
The Knights and the Seawolves will be meeting for only the fourth time in the all-time series, which dates back to the 2002-03 season. Stony Brook leads the all-time series, 2-1, as both teams have picked up a victory over the last two seasons. The Seawolves won at home two years ago, 68-51, before the Knights won last season, 51-48. In the victory,
Mariyah Laury (Orange, NJ/Orange) led the Knights with 20 points, while Pankey added 13. Crawford and Livermore scored eight and nine points, and Crawford led the team with seven rebounds.
Following the game against Stony Brook, FDU will have 18 days off before competing at the Lehigh Christmas City Classic. The Knights will take on Boston University on Saturday, Dec. 29 before taking on Binghamton on Sunday, Dec. 30. Tipoff for both contests in Bethlehem, Pa. are scheduled for 2 p.m.
