W. Soccer Falls by Penalty Kick, 1-0, to Central Conn. State

NEW BRITIAN, Conn. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team fell, 1-0, on a penalty shot to Central Connecticut State University Friday, Oct. 26.  With the loss the Knights fall to 5-10-3 on the year with a 2-7 mark in Northeast Conference action, while the Blue Devils improve to 4-12-1 (3-6 NEC).

The Knights opened play with shots on goal from freshman Esther Rochon (Saint Romuald, Quebec/College Francois-Xavier-Garneau), Carly Tice (Highland Falls, N.Y./James I. O'Neill ) and Rachel Hoekstra (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central ) in the first 15 minutes of play but were unable to find the back of the net. 

The Blue Devils challenged FDU keeper, Felicia Burr (Bellingham, Mass./Blackstone-Millville ), on two occasions in the first half but the teams went into halftime with a 0-0 tie.

Amanda Goulet (Quebec City, Quebec/Shattuck-St. Mary's ), Rochon and Hoekstra sparked the Knights' offense in the opening minutes of the second half, each with one shot.

In the 68th minute, the Blue Devils were awarded a penalty kick.  Brianne Casey placed the shot to give CCSU a 1-0 advantage.

The FDU backline and Burr held CCSU scoreless in the remaining minutes despite an increase in offensive attacks.

Overall, the Blue Devils outshot the Knights, 11-8.  Both keepers made five saves on the day, and corner kicks were tied at four.

The Knights will conclude the 2012 season with a home contest against LIU Brooklyn on Sunday, Oct. 28.  Kickoff is slated for noon with a senior day presentation honoring seniors Francesca Yaccarine (Freehold, N.J./Red Bank Catholic), Julie Woolridge (St. John's, Newfoundland/Bishops College) and Maria Palombo (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood High School) beforehand.
