The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team travels to Smithfield, RI to take on the Bulldogs of Bryant University on Monday, Jan. 30. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 pm.
FDU is 9-12 on the year with a 4-5 mark in Northeast Conference action. They will try to end a three-game losing streak with a win at Bryant.
The Knights most recently fell to Central Connecticut State, 49-51 on Saturday, Jan. 28 in New Britain, CT.
After trailing by as many as 16 points in the first half, the Knights battled to cut the lead to single digits early in the second half. With less than seven minutes to play, the Knights took their first lead of the day. Central hit a two-point shot with 1.2 seconds on the clock to take the win.
The loss to Central dropped the Knights to sixth place in the Northeast Conference. They are currently tied with LIU Brooklyn, CCSU and Robert Morris.
The Bulldogs are 12-8 on the season with a 5-4 mark in NEC action. They've gone 7-3 in games played at the Chace Athletic Center and 5-3 in January.
Bryant averages 62.3 points per game with a 35.5 field goal percentage. Led by 9.6 rebounds per game by Naana Ankoma-Mensa, the Bulldogs bring down an average of 42.4 rebounds per game. Ankoma-Mensa leads the team in points per game as well, with 12.8. Danielle Douglas adds 12.0, while Katie Whittington puts in 11.5 a game for the Bulldogs.
In non-conference play, the Bulldogs faced several similar opponents as the Knights, including Army and Columbia. BU poured out opposite results, with a win over Army and a loss to Columbia.
Most recently, the Bulldogs defeated Monmouth, 55-49 on Saturday to move to fourth place in the NEC.
Monday will be the seventh meeting between the Knights and Bulldogs since Byrant joined the Northeast Conference in 2008.
FDU and Bryant have split each of the six previous meetings, with both teams winning their own home contest during the 2010-11 season. The Knights defeated Bryant, 58-48 in Hackensack in December but fell, 58-62 in Smithfield in January.
After trailing early on, the Knights fought back to tie the game late in the second half. The Bulldogs secured the win by going six-for-eight from the charity stripe in the final minute of play.
In that meeting, Mariyah Laury (Orange, NJ/Orange) led the team with 26 points and six steals.
