The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team will host a pair of Northeast Conference games this weekend at University Stadium in Teaneck, NJ. The Knights will take on Quinnipiac on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7:00 pm before facing Central Connecticut State University on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1:00 pm.
The Knights have started the season with a 3-4-1 record that includes three shutouts and a three-game win streak. They fell to Long Island in their conference opener last weekend but have worked hard in practice for a better outcome this weekend. Senior Elizabeth Langer (Clinton, N.J./Voorhees) scored the Knights' lone goal at LIU, while sophomore goal keeper Sage DoVale (Lilburn, Ga./Collins Hill) has led the back line.
Senior Rashidah Sherman (Pelham Manor, NY/Pelham Memorial) currently holds the team's point-leader position with one goal and two assists under her belt this year. Lindzy Williams (Washington Township, N.J./Westwood) sits just behind Sherman with three points.
The Bobcats of Quinnipiac are 1-5-1 after falling to teams like Hartford, Yale and Lehigh. They were picked to finish fifth in the conference preseason poll but most recently fell to Sacred Heart University, 2-1, and currently hold a 0-1 record in NEC play.
QU averages 10 shots per game and has capitalized six times in 70 shot attempts this season. Head Coach Dave Clarke's squad is led by senior Fortuna Velaj's seven points on the season. Velaj has recorded three goals and one assist. Sophomore Beck Kiting has added two goals for the Bobcats.
Senior Jill Kelley leads the Bobcat's defense with complete games in all seven contests in goal. Kelley has made 32 saves and allowed 12 goals, while maintaining a save percentage of .727.
The Blue Devils of CCSU began the season with a 3-2-3 record after being picked to finish fourth in the NEC by head coaches. They tied Sacred Heart in their conference opener and will face Bryant on Friday, Sept. 30 before traveling to FDU.
CCSU is led by two-time Rookie of the Week, Rosie Maguire. Maguire has compiled 13 points this season with five goals and three assists in just eight games. Senior Brittany Jackson recorded seven points in last week's matches, earning her Player of the Week honors.
The Blue Devils average 12.5 shots per game and have scored 13 goals on the season, compared to their opponents' 12. Nikola Deiter has maintained a save percentage of .818 and has recorded 54 saves in goal.
After the weekend tilt, the Knights will travel to Staten Island, NY to battle Wagner on Friday, Sept. 7. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 pm.
