Women's Basketball To Take on Monmouth in Winter Homecoming Game

The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team (12-11, 5-7 NEC) will be looking to maintain the momentum they gained off a big win at Wagner when they take on the Hawks of Monmouth on Saturday, February 12.  Tip-off at Stratis Arena is slated for 4:30 pm.

Their most recent outing was one for the books.  The Knights defeated Wager, 83-71, in their biggest scoring game of the year.  Backed behind 38 points from junior Mariyah Laury (Orange, NJ/Orange), the Knights kept their playoff hopes alive.  Senior Alyssa Mayrose (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) contributed 10 points in the win, including her 1,000th career point.

Monmouth is coming off a tough loss at Mount St. Mary's, 45-51, on February 7.  The Hawks are led by sophomore Alysha Womack who has averaged 13.0 points per game in 23 games.  Womack has started all contests for the Hawks and averaged 3.8 rebounds per game.

On the glass the Hawks are led by Abby Martin who averages 7.0 rebounds per game.  The Hawks have gone with the same starting five in all of their games this season.  With that lineup the Hawks average 60.6 points per game with 15.3 points from their bench.

This will be the 67th meeting of the Hawks and the Knights since 1977.  Monmouth holds the advantage, having won 44 contests and dropping 22.  The Knights' last win came on December 8, 2008 in a 76-64 decision.

Saturday's game is part of Fairleigh Dickinson's 2011 winter homecoming.  The FDU men's team will face Monmouth live on MSG at 2:00 pm.  Check fduknights.com for more info!
