W. Basketball Looks for First Win at NJIT Wednesday

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team will travel to nearby Newark, NJ to take on the Highlanders of NJIT on Wednesday, Nov. 16.  Tipoff at the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center is slated for 7:00 pm.

The Knights are 0-2 this season with losses to the ACC's Boston College and Ivy League Yale.  Most recently, the Knights fell to the Bulldogs of Yale, 51-80.

The last time an FDU women's basketball team began the season 0-2 was Head Coach Pete Cinella's first season (2007-08).  During that year the Knights fell to Saint Peter's and Seton Hall before defeated NJIT, 71-58, on November 17.  That team went on to finish 13-17 with a 9-9 mark in NEC play.

Senior Mariyah Laury (Orange, NJ/Orange) leads the team with 19.5 points per game.  The NEC preseason All-Conference team selection scored 20 points against Yale on Monday and 15 points against NJIT in the Knights' 59-41 victory over the Highlanders in 2010.

Freshmen Amanda Andrades (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne), Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) and Stephanie Isaacs (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) have played strong rolls on the team so far this season.  The trio has combined for 24 points 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

NJIT also looks to their rookies and started four in their season opener against Brown on Sunday.  The Highlanders defeated Brown, 70-66 with help from 25 points from Sarah Olson.

The Highlanders went 7-21 last season, including a nine-game losing streak to end the season and were picked to finish last in the Great West Conference this year.

Following the bout at NJIT the Knights will travel to West Point, NY to take on Army, Saturday, Nov. 19.
