The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team will take on the Mountain Hawks of Lehigh on Tuesday evening at Stratis Arena for its 2011-12 home opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Hackensack, NJ.
The Knights (0-1) are coming off their season opener this past Saturday at Providence, losing by only 11 to the Friars, 72-61. The Knights were able to keep the contest within five points for a good chunk of the second half but could never get closer as Providence was able to outscore FDU, 16-11, over the final 4:35 to earn the victory.
Juniors
Lonnie Hayes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Harmony Prep) and
Kinu Rochford (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison) led the Knights offensively as both players were making their Knights' debuts. Hayes scored a game-high 26 points, while knocking down 9-of-11 free throws. Rochford registered a double-double with 15 points and game-high 12 rebounds.
Scouting Lehigh: The Mountain Hawks (0-2) come into Tuesday's contest losers of their first two chances of the season. Lehigh opened its season at St. John's, 78-73, in the opening round of the 2K Sports Classic on Nov. 9 in which they led the Red Storm by 10 at the half. This past Saturday, Lehigh fell in Ames, IA to Iowa State, 86-77. The Mountain Hawks trailed by three at the half.
Junior guard C.J. McCollum leads the Mountain Hawks in scoring over the first two games, averaging 16.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Junior forward Holden Greiner is averaging 14.5 points per game and is the squad's leading rebounder, averaging 7.5 rebounds per game. Junior forward Gabe Knutson is the only other Lehigh player scoring in double-figures at 13.5 points per game.
All-Time Series: This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
