The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team (8-4, 2-0 NEC) will be looking to continue its win streak as they host the Highlanders of The New Jersey Institute of Technology on Monday, January 2. Monday's game will be the Knight's final non-conference contest of the season. Tip-off at Stratis Arena is slated for 7:00 pm.
The Knights are coming off of a thrilling 45-44 win over Howard University. Junior Mariyah Laury (Orange, NJ/Orange) led the Knights with 11 points against the Bison, while senior Alyssa Mayrose (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) added eight points. Junior Jasmyra Saunders (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Catholic) and red-shirt freshman Danielle Pankey (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) each had six points. Junior Esther Wallace (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) helped the Knights to their fifth consecutive win with four points and 10 rebounds.
NJIT comes into the game with a 2-8 record on the season. The Highlanders are led by senior guard Jessica Gerald who is averaging 12.6 points per game and 2.3 rebounds per game this season.
This will be the fourth meeting of the Knights and Highlanders since 2001. Each team has won on two occasions. The last Knight's win came on November 17, 2008, while NJIT took the most recent game, 61-69 on January 4, 2010.
Despite the loss last year, the Knights saw strong performances from several players who have returned this season. Saunders led the Knights with a season-high 22 points in the contest. Mayrose added 13 points, while Laury added 12 for the Knights.
After hosting NJIT, the Knights will continue conference play, taking on Sacred Heart on the 7th and Quinnipiac on the 10th. Both contests will be held at Stratis Arena with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 pm.
