The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team (10-7, 3-3 NEC) will be looking to improve its Northeast Conference record as they travel to New Britain, CT to take on Central Connecticut State University on Saturday, January 22. Tip-off at Detrick Gymnasium is slated for 1:00 pm. The FDU men's basketball team will follow with a 4:00 pm start against the Blue Devils.
The Knights are coming off of a tough loss against NEC opponent Robert Morris on Monday, January 17. After trailing 31 points at halftime, the Knights were able to outscore the Colonials 42-25 in the second half. Although they could not cut the deficit, the Knights played with heart through the final minutes. FDU ultimately fell, 67-53.
FDU was led by senior Alyssa Mayrose (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) who had 20 points including five three-pointers. Red-short freshman Danielle Pankey (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) added 12 points for the Knights.
The Blue Devils comes into the game fresh off a last-second win over Sacred Heart on the 17th. CCSU is currently 9-7 on the season with a 2-4 record in the Northeast Conference, including a loss to FDU.
CCSU's scoring effort is paced by Kerrianne Dugan who averages 11.8 points per game, 15th highest in the conference, and 2.69 assists per game. Leanne Crockett leads the team at the post, ranking first in the NEC with 9.7 rebounds per game.
This will be the 30th meeting of the Blue Devils and the Knights since December of 1988. The Knights have taken 14 wins in the series including the most recent on December 22, 2010. The Blue Devils took wins in both meetings last season and hold the advantage by one game with 15 wins. The Knights will look to even the score in the afternoon game.
The Knights continue their New England road trip after Saturday's game with a trip to Smithfield, Rhode Island. FDU will battle Bryant on Monday, January 24 in an NEC rematch. The Knights defeated the Bulldogs, 58-48 at the Rothman Center in December.
